\"We descended the flight of stairs into a world of darkness, our lantern providing the only source of illumination. Abruptly, Giliath announced we had come into another level length of passageway. Here the paving and stonework was markedly different to the tunnel above. As we progressed, I let my hand touch the wall and it felt peculiar - more like the feel of wood on a cold winter\'\'s day, than of stone.

Suddenly my investigation of the architecture was cut short. Ahead in the passage, lying facedown before a set of doors, was a body. He was dressed in the robes of a monk, the once maroon coloration of his vestments almost hid the dark blood that soaked them. My companions inspected him, turning him over to reveal that the left side of his skull was collapsed, having obviously been struck a tremendous blow.

But while the others saw to the dead monk, my attention was firmly fixed upon the nearby set of doors. They hung slightly ajar and I could see that an unnatural radiance pulsed within, beating time with a feint tone, the likes of which I had never heard in the waking world....\"
