Auran Jet is a development engine that can be used to create a variety of 3D applications including,
games, simulation and training software. Originally designed to provide a powerful and extensible foundation
upon which to develop Auran's range of commercial software products, Jet is now available for external use.
Building on Jet's genre neutral design, developers can significantly reduce the time it takes to get a software
product to market.
Auran's success with the Tactics Engine that powered Dark Reign,
prompted the development of an engine that was both broad enough to create any type of game and powerful enough that it would match the latest
technologies found in specialized engines. With assistance from the Australian Government, dedication by a team of talented programmers and
commitment to the vision, Auran has released Auran Jet V1.0.
Auran Jet is being used to develop a diverse range of Auran's
own projects. The following screenshots are from three of Auran's
projects that are utilizing the power of Auran Jet - Ultimate
Trainz Collection the railroad simulator software (released in
November 2002), Excalibur
an upcoming MMORPG title and Dark Awakenings: Guardian, an Auran
d20 Adventure module with 3D scenes. These screenshots demonstrate
Auran Jet's flexibility by supporting three very different
projects.
Included with Auran Jet V1.0 is full source code for JRally2101 - a futuristic, multi-player hover car racing game. This project, which took three
programmers and three artists under seven weeks to develop, illustrates how much can be achieved in a short space of time using Auran Jet. Utilizing much
of this source code, developers can have a new project up and running in a matter of weeks.
With over 400,000 lines of code, and over 5,400 documented API symbols, Auran Jet V1.0 provides all the base functionality you require to develop any type of
interactive 3D product. Licenses have already been sold to companies as diverse as a Korean game developer and an Australian company looking to
model agricultural scenarios.
Aimed squarely at the "indie" developer, Auran Jet is offered under a range of pricing and licensing
options. Whilst the full commercial license for V1.0 is US$30,000, Jet RC1 can also be downloaded under the Free AccessTM License.
A free Demo Version which includes JRally and source code (header files not included) is also available from the
Downloads / Versions page.
To ensure that even start-up developers can affordably access Auran Jet, there are also options to pay lower up front fees by trading back-end
royalties. Hobbyists also get access to Jet and the JRally source under a non-commercial license which costs just US$99.00.
The Auran Jet rollout began on 30th September 2000 with the release of Beta 1 followed by the release of Beta 2 on January 31st 2001 and RC1 on the
July 11th 2001. The response to these releases has been enthusiastic with 10,000 copies downloaded, and the feedback from the development community was
extremely valuable in refining Jet towards V1.0, which is now available to purchase from the Shop page.
